Join us for a fun day of learning and reflecting on Ukrainian Easter traditions.

Baking Paska and making Krashanky and Pysanky are some of the most treasured Ukrainian Easter traditions. Paska is delicious, festive bread that is rich in butter and eggs and baked only for Easter. This workshop will not only teach the tradition of the Paska bread baking, but it will also give instruction on decorating of Paska and explanation of it’s meaning. We start our day from preparing the dough and starter for it. While dough will be rising, we learn about Ukrainian eggs decorating. We’ll discover methods of two different types of Easter eggs – Krashanky and Pysanky. Pysanky will be made by taking turn between writing with wax and dipping into dyes, while Krashanky by using natural dye of onion peel. We will finish our day by baking Paska and praying some of the prayers of Eastern traditions. Our hope is that you will leave the Centre inspired, nourished and with freshly baked Easter bread and beautifully decorated eggs.
