An icon is an instrument for the transmission of Christian Faith that come to us from the Eastern Christian communities of the 8-11 centuries. Through these sacred images painted in two dimensions on wood the Spirit speaks to us. The icon itself is silent and still. They are empty of details. No mouths are open. They do not attempt to be realistic. But their silence is not empty. Contemplating an icon brings us into our own experience of the moment captured in the icon. In the silence God looks at us. We look upon God. Each month we will pray before a different Icon. This time together for personal reflection is offered on the 1st Sunday of each month.
